Sacred Trombone

Sacred Trombone is an Original Pastel Painting on Pastel Paper.

This atmospheric portrait, “Sacred Trombone”, evokes the character of this brass instrument, descendant of the earlier Sackbutt. This instrument has been used sparingly in orchestral pieces, thus described by Felix Mendelssohn as:

The trombone…too sacred for frequent use.

The image captures both the gleam of the polished brass and the skilful hands of the Trombonist as he performs his true glissando, moving his slide without interrupting his flow of air. Man and instrument working in perfect harmony.

Picture size: 16 X 12 ins | 40.5 X 30.5 cm.

Framed size: 18 X 22 in | 45.7 X 55.8 cm.

Sacred Trombone has been treated with a fixative to prevent smudging, but as a pastel painting, is framed under glass to keep him in tip top condition for future performances. Now framed he will be happiest living in a new home where it’s not too bright and sunny to keep the brass shiny and prevent any fading!
